Art @ The James
The James is artistically inspired and partners with a variety of local and international institutions, galleries, artists and non-profit art funds.
The James Chicago has a few unique permanent pieces throughout the hotel. Additional artwork is also rotated into the hotels' public spaces through a partnership with the Monique Meloche gallery located in the local Bucktown area. The hotel was a sponsor of Art Chicago in 2009 and 2010. Quarterly Mixart events are held at the hotel which feature different artists.
Additional key art partners in the Chicago area include the Art Institute, Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
The James New York purchased the work of 21 up-and-coming artists as part of the Corridor Arts Program, each of which have their own style across multiple mediums from photography to oil on canvas. All artists were selected through a partnership with the non-profit Artists Space, located in Soho. The hotel also worked with a handful of local artists to integrate their work into the functional needs of the hotel. Those pieces include lighting in the sky lobby, room numbers in the corridors and privacy bathroom shades in the guestrooms. Additional local partners include the Moving Image Contemporary Art Fair, which is providing video art for the urban garden and for the art channel in the guestrooms.
